d) The bottom right corner of all pages of attached PDFs are stamped with an RMail time and date watermark.
To send, simply compose an email, press the RMail “Send Registered” button in Microsoft Outlook and select the Digital Seal technology by checking the sender’s signature and authentication option (in the “More” area of the send menu). Emails may be sent using the Digital Seal feature with or without attachments. Emails sent with PDF attachments have the additional protection using the Digital Seal technology. Emails may be sent automated from approved business applications.
The recipient gets the email with the following depending on what other RMail features were selected.
1. The word “Registered:” is appended to the subject as a prefix to make the importance of the email apparent.
2. The attached PDF document is cryptographically and digitally signed and has an independent visual Digital Seal timestamp watermark.
3. There is a Certified Email certificate which is an HTML file attachment that contains sealed cryptographic authentication data.
4. The Digital Seal banner with protection information text is added to the top of the email.
5. The digital signing indication on attachment PDFs adds a visually cue for the recipient.
6. Instruction are added to show any recipient how to self authenticate the original email to receive proof of authorship, timestamp and transmission.
7. The sender’s message body may also be authenticated.
When the recipient a message with the Digital Seal feature opens any attached PDF, they will find the PDF is digitally signed using an RMail digital certificate. The bottom right corner of every page in the attached PDF is stamped with the Digital Seal mark, tracking number and the Digital Seal mark maps the tracking number on the Certified Email certificate and the Registered Receipt record, which is returned to the sender. The HTML file attached to the email received also contains additional transmission information and is cryptographically associated to the original message content. This HTML file is a durable record that can be authenticated, it provides the verifiable proof record, and is also a self-contain record, meaning there is no other copy of this message stored by a third party and it retains its authentication qualities even if forwarded to other parties.
Any recipient of an email with the Digital Seal mark can verify or authenticate the email that they received. To authenticate the message and verify the original author, content transmitted and timestamp, any recipient may forward the email with its attachment to the verification address (i.e. “email@example.com”) to instantly, on demand, receive proof of original authorship and authenticity of the original message and its attachments, as well as original timestamp of transmission. If the Certified Email certificate with the message and attachments are authentic, the email authentication receipt is generated with a reconstructed and cryptographically verified electronic original message, attachments, and with authenticated original transmission data. The original authenticated sent message with the attachments are forensically re-created and attached to the email authentication receipt. The authentication process re-creates the original and functions without any third party storage of any message content or transmission data. Authentication is instant.
