One of the most lucrative Internet crimes today is impostor email, where the Internet criminal poses as a company executive, engages in subtle back-and-forth email with staff, which ends in a lure for the staff to wire money to pay an invoice, real estate down payment, or transaction payment.
Industry calls this a “Whaling” attack – first reported by RPost alongside RPost’s release of its Anti-Whaling email impostor protection service (read more). The FBI calls this “Business Email Compromise”. The Real Estate industry calls this “Wire Fraud”.
With the success of RPost’s Anti-Whaling service within the real estate sector, The Coalition to Stop Real Estate Wire Fraud invited RPost to join as the Coalition’s latest partner in the battle against mortgage closing scams and real estate wire fraud.
Founded by the American Land Title Association, the Coalition provides education about the growing threat of these scams and offers tips to help consumers protect their money during the homebuying process. RPost assists with this mission by providing members its RMail Anti-Whaling email impostor protection (install here now – free) and RMail Gateway’s Wire Fraud Protection Automation which uses RMail’s specialized wire transfer encryption (read more).
